Your success strategy has been...

The Sponge

You've built your success by being the one everyone can rely on.
But what would life feel like if you didn't have to carry quite so much?

You're the one everyone knows they can count on.

When something goes wrong, you're often the first person people call. You listen, help sort things out and somehow find room for one more thing, even when your plate is already full.

It’s probably one of the reasons you’ve achieved so much.

People trust you because you take their problems seriously. When something matters to someone you care about, it matters to you too. Long after the conversation ends, you're still thinking about how you could help.

The trouble is, you've been carrying so much for so long, you've almost forgotten how heavy it is or what it feels like to put any of it down.

You might notice...

  • You pick up on how people are feeling, even when they haven't said a word. You notice a change in someone's mood or tone that others miss, and instinctively find yourself thinking about what might be going on for them and how you could help.

  • You step in before anyone asks. You see someone struggling and find yourself offering to sort it out, even though you've already got plenty to do.
  • You become the person who keeps everything going. At home or at work, you're the one who picks up the extra jobs and makes sure nothing gets left for someone else to struggle with.
  • You become everyone's sounding board. Friends, family and colleagues share their worries and frustrations with you. You're happy to listen, but often carry those worries long after the conversation ends.

You’ve been doing these things for so long they probably feel like second nature.
After all, if you don't, who will?

You already know you do this. So why does it keep happening?

You've probably told yourself you need to stop taking so much on. Let other people work things out, stop worrying about everyone and leave a little more room for yourself.

And you mean it.

But then someone is struggling, a problem needs sorting or a person you care about is having a hard time. Before you've really thought about it, you're involved again. You've offered to help, taken responsibility or found yourself carrying another worry.

Because in that moment, helping feels like the most natural thing in the world.

The challenge is recognising when your natural instinct to care has turned into an automatic response to carry.

That’s the gap between understanding your Success Strategy and beginning to change how you use it.

And it’s where the next part of this work begins.

What if you could catch yourself in that moment?

Someone you care about is having a difficult time. You can see they're struggling, and you're already thinking about what you could do to make things easier.

You want to help. Of course you do. But you've got plenty going on in your own life, and you know that once you get involved, it's hard to stop thinking about what they're going through.

That's the moment that matters.

Because when someone needs you, stepping in can feel like the only thing you could possibly do.

Imagine being able to recognise that instinct and decide how you want to respond, before you've taken their problem on as your own.

How different would life feel if you could give the people you love the support they need and still have the time and energy to enjoy your own life?

Angela

"At work and at home, I was always the one making sure everyone was okay. I didn't think anything of it because that's just what I'd always done. Understanding that pattern has made such a difference to how I spend my time."

Meet Your Coach

Hi! I'm Jo.

Before becoming an Executive Coach, I spent nearly 20 years as a senior executive, Chief Marketing Officer and board director, leading teams across Asia Pacific.

Again and again, I noticed the same thing.

Women were trying to solve today's challenges using the same way of succeeding that had worked for years.

That's what led me to develop the Success Strategy framework we're exploring together today.

Your Sponge has helped you achieve so much.

Now imagine being able to care just as deeply, without feeling like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
